Detailed Route Hearing Requests

A detailed route hearing is the opportunity for landowners who are not satisfied with the detailed routing of a pipeline or powerline across their land to argue for changes to the route. A landowner could argue, for example, that the route specified by the company is not the route of least environmental impact.

Since provisions were made for detailed route hearings in 1983, they have only been convened twice and both times were in Quebec's Eastern Townships in 1985 over Hydro Quebec powerlines exporting electricity to the United States.

Members of the Coalition of Landowners Concerned by a Pipeline are now submitting their requests for a detailed route hearing in their area. A couple of examples:

  • Gary and Christine Richards
  • Liselyn Adams and Bruce Miller
