TED Document Index
TED Error Index
This document explains the basic structure of TED and how to extract information from the database.
TED Format
TED is composed of two web pages.
- The TED Document Index
Lists in chronological order all documents (Replacement Parts Catalogues, Workshop Manuals, etc.) in which errors have been found.
- The TED Error Index
Lists all of the errors and all of the corrections for all documents.
Using TED
Finding Errors and Corrections for Your Year/Model Bike
- Open the TED Document Index
- Look down the page until you find your bike's year
- Beneath the year, find the document that corresponds to the model of your bike
- Beneath the document, click the xx issues link
This brings you to the Error Index where you will find a list of the errors and corrections for the chosen document
- NOTE: Some documents have an additional "Document Notes" link. Click it to display additional info about the document itself
- NOTE: If the document you selected is at, or near the very bottom of the Error Index, you may have to scroll down a bit
Finding All Errors Associated with a Particular Part Number
To find all errors and corrections pertaining to a particular part number, search for it directly on the Error Index.
- At the top of the Document Index, click the link for the Error Index
- Be sure you are at the top of the Error Index by pressing Ctrl-Home
- Press Ctrl-F and type or paste the part number into the search field
- The number of occurances of that part number in the Error Index for all years and models will appear in the Search Box (upper right-hand corner of screen)
- If the number is zero, there are no recorded errors for that part number
- If the number is 1 or greater, click on the Search Box Down Arrow to advance from one error to the next
- NOTE: Since TSB's listed part numbers Alpha-Numerically, search for parts by both their Alpha-Numberic and Numberic formats
- To convert between Alpha-Numberic and Numberic formats, use this link
- A workaround is to search on just the last four digits of the part number.
Linking to an Error or Illustration
You can create a link to nearly any piece of information contained in TED.
- To create a link to a particular error, use the Error Index page address and append # plus the error number to the end
Example: A direct link to error #100513 would be:
https://hermit.cc/tmc/parts/errors/errors.htm#100513
- To link to an illustration, bring it up in your browser and copy the address in the URL bar
Example: To create a link to Figure 2 in the error example above, bring up error #100513, click on the "Figure 2" link, and copy the URL in the address bar:
https://hermit.cc/tmc/parts/errors/iurl/100171.gif
