Travels with Bonnie: MoitiƩ-MoitiƩ

Monday June 4 2007

Windy day, partly sunny at departure. Increasing cloud and haze. Temperature dropped between East Hereford and Seymour Lake. Surprising to me.

Trip

A large wonderfully scenic circle, half in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and the other half in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

Vermont

Stops

  • 2 border crossings
  • 1 fuel stop
  • Roadwork
  • 25-minute lunch (Seymour Lake)
  • Photo stops

    Route

As an alternative to the Valley Road and Holland Road between Seymour Lake and Derby Line, continue west on Route 111 (great hills and views) to Derby Center and then take Route 5 back up to Derby Line and the border.

    Notes

Canadian route is mostly hilly farm country but forest from St. Malo to East Hereford.

Norton to Island Pond (114) offers twists turns dips and rises through forest. But watch out for moose! Moose and logging trucks through the 1-lane underpass on a curve. I kid you not.

Many parts follow high ridges and offer panoramic views.
